Bali Visa Landscape 2026
Three things moved in 2026:
- The tourist e-VOA (code C1, formerly B211A) is IDR 500,000 ($27.9) โ 30 days, extendable once for 30 more (extension also IDR 500,000 ($27.9)). Official rate, 2026 (Imigrasi, NL embassy). Many blogs still quote the old 650,000 โ they're wrong.
- A fee increase is proposed. News (12โ13 Aug 2026) reports plans to raise the VOA/e-VOA to IDR 750,000โ1,000,000 ($41.9-55.9) (Kompas). Not yet in effect.
- Remote work is formalized: the E33G Remote Worker KITAS (1-year renewable) is the main path for digital nomads, alongside the Second Home visa (5โ10 years) for retirees and investors.
Tourist e-VOA (C1) โ Cost, How to Apply, Extensions
- Cost: IDR 500,000 (~USD 28) for 30 days, single entry.
- Extension: one further 30 days for IDR 500,000 ($27.9) โ 60 days total.
- Apply: online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before you fly โ pay by card, e-visa by email, show it at immigration.
- Practical: carry proof of onward travel and accommodation (standard checks). Overstaying is expensive โ see below.
Right for a holiday, a trial month, or a two-month stay โ not a work visa (see FAQ).
E33G Remote Worker KITAS (1 Year) โ Requirements, Cost, Taxes
The E33G is a residence permit (KITAS/ITAS) for remote workers whose income comes from a company outside Indonesia.
- Duration: up to 1 year, renewable.
- Official fee structure (PNBP, Kantor Imigrasi): ITAS 6 months IDR 2,000,000 ($112); 1 year IDR 3,000,000 ($168); 2 years IDR 5,000,000 ($279); 5 years IDR 7,000,000. ($391) For E33G, expect the same ITAS fee plus agent/processing costs โ most applicants use an agent.
[VERIFY: current E33G requirements and total cost โ imigrasi.go.id/wna/daftar-visa-indonesia/E33G] - Taxes: stay 183+ days and you may become an Indonesian tax resident โ treatment is evolving; check pajak.go.id or an adviser.
[VERIFY: current E33G tax guidance] - Timeline: budget 4โ8 weeks with an agent; DIY is slower and paperwork-heavy.

Second Home Visa (5โ10 Years) โ Who It's For, Requirements, Cost
Indonesia's long-term option for retirees and investors: multiple entry, up to 10 years (issued in 5-year tranches), no repeated extensions.
- Who it suits: retirees with pension/income, property investors, and long-stay remote workers.
- Requirements: proof of funds plus a placement/deposit requirement set by immigration.
[VERIFY: current fund thresholds โ imigrasi.go.id] - Cost: a separate permit class with its own official fee; agents commonly handle applications.

KITAS vs KITAP โ Which Residence Permit Do You Need?
- KITAS (ITAS โ temporary residence): 6 months to 2 years per grant, renewable โ the umbrella covering E33G, employment, and spouse visas. Official fees: IDR 2,000,000 ($112) (6 mo) / 3,000,000 (1 yr) / 5,000,000 (2 yr) (Kanim, 2026).
- KITAP (ITAP โ permanent residence): granted in 5-year tranches after qualifying time on KITAS (e.g. marriage to an Indonesian, or long-term residence history).

Rule of thumb: short-term or remote work โ KITAS/E33G. Long-term/permanent โ KITAP.
Working Visas & Sponsored KITAS
If an Indonesian company employs you, the route is a sponsored employment KITAS โ different from E33G, with employer sponsorship and extra approvals, on the same ITAS fee scale. [VERIFY: current requirements โ imigrasi.go.id]
Official Fees vs. Agent Prices
| Item | Official fee (IDR) | Typical agent quote |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist e-VOA (C1), 30 days | 500,000 | No agent needed โ apply online yourself |
| e-VOA extension (30 days) | 500,000 | Agents often charge far more โ DIY is straightforward |
| ITAS/KITAS 6 months | 2,000,000 | Agent fees add on top; commonly 30โ50%+ above official |
| ITAS/KITAS 1 year | 3,000,000 | Same โ ask for itemized quotes |
| ITAS 2 years | 5,000,000 | Same |
| ITAS 5 years | 7,000,000 | Same |
DIY on the e-VOA saves you everything โ it's an online form. For KITAS/E33G/Second Home, agents help with complex cases (family, employment, long-term), but an agent should save time, not cost 2โ3ร the official fee. Red flags: quotes far above official tariffs, cash-only demands, "guaranteed" outcomes. [VERIFY: current agent market rates]
Overstay Fines & How to Never Pay Them
Overstaying is the most expensive mistake in Bali: the fine is commonly cited at IDR 1,000,000 ($55.9) per day โ a week can cost more than your rent [VERIFY: current overstay rate]. How to avoid it:
- Put your visa expiry date on your phone calendar the day you arrive.
- Extend before expiry โ extensions are processed online.
- For stays beyond 60 days, switch to the right permit (E33G) instead of stacking tourist extensions.
- Leave a buffer: don't book your departure for your last legal day.
Step-by-Step: Applying Online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id
- Create an account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
- Select e-VOA/C1 (tourism).
- Fill in passport details โ match your passport exactly; typos cause problems at the gate.
- Pay the IDR 500,000 ($27.9) fee online by card.
- Receive the e-visa by email (usually within days; apply at least 1 week before flying).
- Save it offline and show it at immigration on arrival, with return ticket and accommodation as asked.
- For the extension, repeat before day 30 (max 60 days total).
FAQ
Can I work remotely on a tourist visa? Officially, no โ a tourist visa is for tourism. If you'll be earning while in Bali, the E33G Remote Worker KITAS is the compliant route; enforcement has tightened. [VERIFY: current enforcement guidance]
Can I retire in Bali? Yes โ the Second Home visa (5โ10 years) is designed for retirees and investors. Thresholds have changed over time, so check the official site.
Which visa if I stay 3 months? Two e-VOA extensions only cover 60 days. For 3+ months, plan on the E33G or a longer KITAS class โ there is no overstay "grace".
Are fees going up? A hike to IDR 750,000โ1,000,000 ($41.9-55.9) is proposed (news, Aug 2026) but not yet in force. Applying before any change locks in the current rate.
